Sambar

Ingredients

Vegetables- one bowl
(Potatoes, tomatoes, ladies finger, drum sticks, brinjal, cucumber and beans)
Saras sambar masala- 2 tbsp
Dal- 1 cup
Shallots- 5 to 8 sliced
Green chillies- 3 sliced
Turmeric powder- 1 tsp
Tamarind water- 1 cup
Mustard seeds- 1 tsp
Dried red chillies- 2
Curry leaves
Oil- 1 tbsp
Water
Salt to taste

Method of Preparation

Take a pressure cooker and add 1 cup of Dal. Add ½ cup of water and salt to taste. Cook for
15 minutes.
Take a pan and add vegetables. Add ½ cup of water and salt to taste. Add 1 tsp of turmeric
powder. Add sliced shallots and green chillies. Add one bowl of chopped ladies finger and tomatoes.
Cover and cook for 15 minutes. Then add the cooked dal. Mix well. Add 1 cup of tamarind water
and mix well. Add 2 tbsp of Saras Sambar masala and cook for 5 minutes.
Take another pan. Heat 1 tbsp of oil. Add 1 tsp of mustard seeds, 2 crushed dried red chillies
and some curry leaves. Add the seasoning into the Sambar gravy. Serve hot.
